Andrew Cromie, Vice President
Geneticist, Irish Cattle Breeding Federation. From a farming background, Andrew manages the Animal Evaluation and G€N€ IR€LAND breeding programs at ICBF. He is a strong believer in the benefits of cattle breeding; to deliver cumulative long term benefits for Irish farmers. The breeding objectives established by ICBF (e.g., the EBI and beef €uro-Stars) place a strong emphasis on seasonality of production. According to Andrew “Irish farmers need cows that will produce a calf each year in Spring-time to match the onset of grass growth. If we can breed this type of cow, coupled with good milk solids (for dairy) and good growth in her calf (for beef), then we will have more profitable farmers. This is the breeding goal for ICBF”.
